My boys don't generally play with "real" toys! You know all the stuff that lines the toy section at Wal-Mart. Not that they aren't intrigued with those things...they do have "real" toys (not a lot per my preference) to play with, but 99% of the time they can be caught playing with broken gadgets my husband gives them- parts from his bike, an old, broken keyboard, empty medicine containers, etc.
So if you're family, and you read this, think "What do I have that's broken? Maybe an old blender or microwave?" when you're thinking about Christmas and birthdays for the boys! :)

ReplyDeleteWell, Sheila, my boys (when they were your kids age, they're now almost 16, sophomore in HS and 13 1/2, 8th. grader)...they did a lot of the same things.
They really liked the thought of having something that was Daddy and Mama's. It somehow brought more joy and value to the "toy". I guess it's kind of like Daddy and Mama's bed always seems more comfortable.
Anyway, some of the "broken toys" we'd give them were, cardboard/hardidboard materials that were formed and came out of computer boxes (they used these for "towers" and "forts" for their little army men to hid in). We also gave them old, old, old cell phones (you know, the ones that are bigger than our house phones?). Old keyboards, like you've done and other "office" type things that wouldn't hurt them.
I have a huge smile on my face as I write this thinking how great it is to know another sister does the same, and remembering those precious days when my young men were little boys. :-)
